Congratulations on making it to another Friday!! This is a special Friday because it is the last Friday before an United States holiday. For some of us, it’s a three-day holiday with the holiday being Labor Day. If it’s cool enough, I think I’m going to woman the grill. Yep, that’s right, I’m the grill master in this house and I love it! It actually relaxes me and I’m pretty good at it.
There are many things I’m good at doing things that are typically male roles like building and fixing items (I put my own grill together without help from the hubby), grilling foods and working on cars. My dad taught me these things at a young age and I’ve enjoyed them ever since. Truthfully, I’ve never seen these things as items on the male role checklist but just in observation, I see mostly men doing it. As a military spouse, I really appreciate knowing what and how to do things that would supposedly be handled by my husband simply because there are times when my husband is not around. What’s even better is that my husband supports me doing those things by taking on things that are traditionally completed by women like cooking, cleaning and doing the laundry.
Last night, my husband and I were watching Married At First Sight and one of the things that was discussed on the show was whether or not to carry the woman over the threshold. One of the ladies on the show did not want her new husband to carry her over the threshold and then she wondered if that made him feel less than a man. She wasn’t sure he could lift her and didn’t want to make it embarrassing for him if he couldn’t. She’s not a large woman but she wanted her husband to feel more like a man and not a failure should he be unable to do the traditional move.
So now it’s your turn…
Do masculine/feminine roles, when it comes to relationships, still exist? If so, what is it that you would want the other sex to continue to do when it comes to their traditional gender’s role? What would you like them to consider doing that is traditional completed by your sex? Let me know in the comments below! I’m looking forward to reading them!
Until next time…enjoy Friday and your weekend!
